Forest Nr Brampton Cumbria Purchased in 1997

A single block of forestry of 631 hectares (1600 acres) planted between 1977 and 1980 predominantly with Sitka Spruce and purchased for £1.2 million.

Between 1997 and 2010 £125,000 was spent on the property on management and constructing an infrastructure of forest roads.

Between 2012-2018, 200 hectares were harvested to realised £3.2 million tax free with around £900,000 reinvested to restock the cleared land and construct further roads.

In 2015 the owner died and the business was valued at £5.7 million which was inherited by his children free of Inheritance Tax.

Since then a further 40 hectares have been harvested generating another £1.5 million which has largely been distributed to the children with £200,000 retained for restocking.

Further harvests over the next 7 years may yield a further £3 million.

The grandchildren will see the start of the harvesting of the second crop rotation in 15 years time.
